Extreme sports are activities and practices which often involve speed, height, a high level of physical exertion, and specialized gear, ans are usually perceived as having a high level of danger 

Some have been done for quite a while; others are more recent. Sometimes they involve teams and rules, but most often they are perfomed solo. People who take part use their skills and experience to control the risks. That control is what makes them sports and not just dangerous behavior.

 Wakeboarding is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing techniques. The rider is usually towed behind a motorboat.

White water rafting is an outdoor activity which use an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other body of water. This is often done on whitewater or different degrees of rough water, and generally represents a new and challenging environment for participants.

Snowboarding is an activity that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow while standing on a snowboard attached to a rider's feet. It became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.

Luge is an Olympic sport. It consists of a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds face up and feet-first. Lugers compete against a timer and on artificial tracks.

Motocross is a form of off-road motorcycle racing held on enclosed off-road circuits.

Hang gliding is an air sport in which a pilot flies a light and non-motorized  aircraft called a hang glider.  The pilot uses a harness suspended from the airframe, and exercises control by shifting body weight.

BMX bicycle races are sprint races on special circuits or tracks. They usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt race course made of various jumps and rollers and a finish line.

Skydiving or parachuting, is the action sport of exiting an aircraft and returning to Earth with the aid of gravity. Divers slow down during the last part of the descent by using a parachute. It may or may not involve a certain amount of free-fall, figures, etc.

Rock climbing is an activity in which participants climb up, down or across natural rock formations or artificial rock walls. The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route without falling.

Skateboarding is an action sport which involves riding and performing tricks using a skateboard. Competition usually takes place in a bowl or skatepark.

Roller derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating in the same direction around a track. Game play consists of a series of short matchups in which both teams designate a scoring player who scores points by lapping members of the opposing team.

Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer toward the shore.
